Get help with NHS costs

Posted on March 16th, 2023

Check if you’re eligible for help with NHS costs such as prescription charges, travel or dental treatment.

Although most NHS treatments are free, there are still some costs people might need to pay for, such as prescription charges or travel costs to attend a hospital appointment.

However, support is available to help with these costs – depending on a person’s circumstances – for:

  • NHS prescriptions
  • NHS dental treatment
  • Sight tests, new glasses or contact lenses
  • Repairing or replacing your glasses or contact lenses
  • NHS wigs and fabric supports
  • Travel for NHS treatment

You do not have to be claiming benefits to apply for NHS support. If you’re employed with a low income, you may also be eligible for help.

Household income will be considered, as well as council tax and housing costs.

Any help received also covers partners and children under 19.

To check if you’re eligible for help with NHS costs, fill in this short online form. It should only take 3 minutes.
